Richard Jean So

Professor of English & Digital Humanities | Duke University

About

I am the Rhodes Chair in Digital Humanities and Associate Professor of English at Duke University. My work bridges the humanities and data science: I use computational methods and AI to study culture, and I explore how cultural insight and critical theory can help shape more ethical and meaningful AI systems.

My research appears in leading humanities journals such as PMLA and Critical Inquiry, as well as in scientific venues like ACL and PNAS. I also write for broader audiences, with recent essays in The New York Times and The Atlantic.
